Samsung launches solar powered schools in AfricaSamsung has just launched its Internet Schools Programme, starting in South Africa, with plans to bring it to Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and Sudan, in the coming years. The schools are completely mobile, and like Apple’s initiative, are also solar-powered.
More enormous California solar plants on the horizonThe U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) has given First Solar approval for yet another massive solar plant, the largest photovoltaic (PV) plant the agency has approved thus far. Desert Sunlight Solar Farm, a 550 megawatt (MW) thin-film solar PV project, will be built near Palm Springs, California on 4100 acres of public land. (Source : Sustainable Business)
Turkey tops European list in support for sustainabilityOut of 10 European countries recently surveyed on climate change and energy trends, Turkey tops the list in favorable attitudes toward sustainability. EDF Energy’s second annual pan-European Low Energy Alternative Future (LEAF) Index found that concerns about climate change increased across the EU last year, with Turkey showing the greatest gain: 75 percent are now worried about global warming, compared to 48 percent in 2010.
